ARCHAEOLOGICAL MONITORING
Summit conducts monitoring of ground-disturbing activities at construction
sites to prevent inadvertent destruction of known archaeological resources
in a project area.
Summit Case Studies:
Client Name: Sierra Pacific Power Company
Location: Virginia City, Nevada
Project Description:
Summit provided professional archaeological services
to Sierra Pacific during the installation of a natural
gas regulator station
near the intersection of U.S. Highway 395 and Nevada
Highway 341. As previous archaeological investigations
had identified important cultural
resources at the construction location, the SHPO
recommended monitoring during ground-disturbing activities
associated with the regulator station.
All ground-disturbing activities at the construction
site were monitored to prevent inadvertent destruction
of archaeological resources at the
property.
Client Name: Sierra Pacific Power
Location: Washoe and County, Nevada
Project Description:
Summit has conducted numerous smaller-scale archaeological
surveys for public utility corridors on lands administered
by the BLM, USFS and the City of Reno. The work completed
includes Class III cultural
resource inventories, involving standard archive searches
and site evaluations, and delineations and monitoring
of known sites during construction activities.
Client Name: Southwest Gas Corporation
Location: Nevada and Placer Counties, California
Agency Review: CALTRANS, SHPO
Project Description:
Summit was contracted, under the direction of Caltrans,
to prepare an Agreement Document preparatory to construction
of a natural gas pipeline from the vicinity of the
Northstar resort to the Town of
Truckee, California. Working with regulatory personnel,
Summit developed a construction monitoring program
and prepared and implemented mitigation
plans for two significant precontact sites crossed
by the pipeline.
