ARCHITECTURAL SURVEYS AND HISTORIC STRUCTURES REPORTS
Summit Case Studies:
Client: Paiute Pipeline Inc.
Location: Carson City, Douglas, and Washoe Counties,
Nevada
Client Need:
A survey and inventory of standing structures within a
gas pipeline Area of Potential Effect, in order to
identify sites, buildings or structures potentially eligible
for nomination to the National Register
of Historic Places, in compliance with Section 106
of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (as amended)
and other federal regulations.
Project Description:
An architectural survey begins with preliminary documentary
research. This entails searching Assessor’s records, local histories
and other source materials. Architectural field work
involves site inspections during which structures are
described, plotted on site maps, photographed
and their distances from construction activities determined.
By evaluating architectural style and other details,
the Architectural Historian determines
the age of the structure and its potential eligibility
for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
Documentary sources provide
data to place thestructure within its historical context.
This particular project included several historic ranch
complexes in Douglas County,
Nevada, which has a long history of ranching. In addition
to satisfying the regulatory requirements of our client,
the results of the architectural
survey provide valuable information on historic resources
in the region.
