Equipment and Facilities
We utilize the latest technologies, such as GPS, and GIS to increase
the accuracy, efficiency, and quality of our products. Summit has a full
time staff of personnel certified in GIS and spatial data methodologies
as well as industry standard equipment and software for advanced processing,
analysis and report generation. Summit utilizes industry standard GIS
software including Environmental Research Systems Institute’s (ESRI)
ArcView (versions 3.2 and 8), Spatial Analyst 1.1 for ArcView, and ArcInfo
8.1.0.
Summit has a variety of equipment including IBM-based work stations at
the various office locations connected via a Local Area Network (LAN)
and a Wide Area Network (WAN) for communication; Trimble GeoExplorer GPS
Units, CalComp digitizer, cameras, laser printers; color printers; lap
top computers with network interfaces; fax machines; copy machines; and
report binding equipment. Licensed computer operating systems and software
programs include DOS 6, Windows 3.11, Windows 95 and Windows 98, Microsoft
Office with Power Point, Word 6.0 and 7.0, Wordperfect 2000, Excel 5.0 & 7.0,
Quattro Pro, dBase IV, Reflex, Surfer, Microsoft Project 5.0; PC Anywhere;
Conner Backup System; Microsoft Publisher; Modem Capabilities; PC Tools;
IBM Link Capabilities; SF255/254 program; Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator;
ArcView GIS, Designer; Auto Cad Release 13 with digitizer; and Auto Cad
Lite with a digitizer. We are able to facilitate report preparation using
our extensive library focusing on Great Basin, Midwestern and California
archaeology as well as auxiliary studies. The library also includes over
2000 topgraphic maps.
Summit’s Carson City laboratory facility is equipped with temperature
controlled storage and is designed to accommodate large artifact collections
for cleaning and processing, and temporary storage of archaeological remains.
Various equipment and tools are available including light tables, washing
facilities, GPS equipment, GIS software and digital scales and calipers.
Field equipment includes complete excavation equipment (screens, shovels,
dig kits, etc.) and company-owned field vehicles.
