Field Research & Applied Studies for the Crop Protection Industry

Modern agriculture relies on a wide variety of crop protection chemicals to grow the high-quality crops that feed the nation. Concerns regarding the safety of the nation's water resources have prompted ever-increasing scrutiny of the compounds applied to agricultural fields. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as mandated by the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), has developed a registration program for these compounds that requires extensive laboratory and field testing prior to registration. The goal of this testing is to ensure that compounds used to produce the nation's food supply are safe and will not degrade the environment. Summit contributes to this goal by conducting comprehensive and detailed field environmental fate and transport studies.

Capabilities

Our scope of services includes the following types of studies:

  • Prospective and Retrospective Groundwater Monitoring Studies;
  • Field Dissipation Studies;
  • Runoff Studies;
  • Accumulation Studies on Rotational or Irrigated Crops;
  • Drift Field Evaluation and Volatility Studies; and
  • Unsaturated and saturated zone fate and solute transport modeling.

These are complex studies of the physical and chemical environment at carefully selected field sites, and are conducted following EPA Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). The Summit team includes geologists, hydrogeologists, soil scientists, agricultural specialists, environmental chemists, environmental scientists, project managers, quality assurance specialists, and field and administrative staff with significant experience in groundwater monitoring and related studies. Summit takes great pride in its GLP research activities and will continue to be at the forefront of introducing innovative and practical technologies into field research and applied studies.
